Quick observations:

  • LR cRIO is at 192.168.1.104, and responding to MAX. However, there's no shared variable processes visible on it in NI DSM. SMC's PSP bindings report "server failure" or "process failure" as applicable.
  • Examining it in MAX, there's an error-icon on the cRIO RIO0 device, with this message:

Error -63044 (kRIOStatusRioRpcServerMissing):
The RIO server could not be found on the specified remote device. Ensure that NI-RIO software is installed and that the RIO server is running and properly configured.

For NI-RIO 2.3 and later, refer to Software>>NI-RIO>>NI-RIO Settings under the system in MAX.
Prior to NI-RIO 2.3, refer to Software>>NI-VISA>>VISA Options under the system in MAX.

  • But there's an entry for NI-RIO 13.0 under NI CompactRIO 13.0; not sure what it's missing. (Below: error-icon on RIO0.)

Hi Art,

Yes after sending this email I did notice that LR wasn’t showing up in DSM,  Nothing initially comes to mind for causes or solutions to this.  Other than perhaps reformatting the Crio.  Which adds its own complexity as it’s set up in the older version Labview (LV13orLV14)

Ill take a closer look at this today.,

Email from Chris:

I’ve taken a look at this, I have asked the operators to do a full power cycle.  This didn’t seem to change much other than 192.168.1.104 seems to “show up”  IN DSM but expanding the tree doesn’t seem to show anything.

I started a case at NI, we’ll see what they come back with.

It seems like reformatting and reinstalling the software may be an option.  Which is a pain, as this was written in 2013 version and I’ll have to upgrade this controller to 2015 as I no longer have 2013 LV on my computer.

Email from Chris Pickering:

HI Guys,

I was able to get both the Kwig and Tunt LR operating using the RAD utility.

Kwig is programmed as it always has been on a Crio9075, and Tunt has been updated to be identical to Kong (also a Crio9075).   This also means that the 9063 we sent to Tunt may be redundant, and we may be able to return it  to FPS after Tunt Bess is commissioned .

The guys are going to give Kwig a try once they get some maintenance done to the Turbines.

I think I overwrote the Operation hours for the LR in Tunt.  We may be able to piece together what it was from SCADA,  but its not that useful of information anyhow.

When we get Tunt up and going I can make changes to the LR if necessary.

Email from Art:

Chris,

  • Are they both on LV2015 now?
  • Tunt was using shared variables between SMC and LR. Does the current program provide the modbus interface?
  • If we don't need it, we could consider leaving the cRIO-9063 with IES as a regional spare.

Thanks,

Art

Feedback from NI regarding Kwig LR issue

Thanks for the comment.

Based on the message you describe, it could be because of an issue with the bootline of the VxWorks OS, please try what this article mentions.

It is basically moving the SafeMode dip switch to ON, reboot (this step is important), and reformat the controller.

Connected - Safe Mode (Improper Installation) on VxWorks CompactRIO

Please try it and let me know.

Have a nice weekend.
